Short intro

Violator is the seventh studio album by English electronic music band Depeche Mode. It was first released on 19 March 1990 through Mute Records internationally, and through Sire and Reprise Records in the United States. Preceded by the singles Personal Jesus and Enjoy the Silence a top-10 entry in both the United Kingdom and the United States, the album propelled the band into international stardom, and also yielded the singles Policy of Truth and World in My Eyes. It was the first release through the imprint Violator Records, a spin-off of Mona Scott & Chris Lighty's Violator Management company. A number of then-Violator Management clients and associates appear on the album, among them Q-Tip, Busta Rhymes, and Noreaga. This album was put together to showcase many, if not all, of the artists on the Violator label. But instead of making me hungry for the artists' albums, it makes me wonder why anyone would sign any of these people. Because few people other than under-underground heads even knew Violator was a label, it's no surprise that many of the artists featured here won't ring a bell to most. At the end of the day, though, you'll be glad that most of these people were never heard from again. Da Franchise First Degree sounds too pre-Murder-Inc with his references to murder. Violator is the seventh album by the English synthpop group Depeche Mode, released by Mute in 1990. Preceded by the hit singles Personal Jesus and Enjoy the Silence a Top 10 hit on both sides of the Atlantic, Violator propelled the band into international stardom. The album yielded two further hit singles, Policy of Truth and World in My Eyes. This album is the first of the band to achieve the Top 10 on the Billboard 200 number seven and stand 74 weeks in the chart. In 2003, the album was ranked number 342 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. It was
