2 years after the groundbraking "Pump Up The Jam" album Technotronic released the follow up "Body To Body". In style it was mostly similar to it's predecessor, had a little more dark and industrial edge to it though. The opening track and lead single "Move That Body" aroused small hopes, but you can hear very quickly that the successor can not keep up with quality. It just lacks good melodies, and the replacement of the singer was also more of a burden rather than a blessing. The compositions are almost all relatively poor except for a few ones. Personally think this album does not even come close to "Pump Up The Jam".

Track by Track Review

Move That Body: Rhythm and Groove is really strong in this track, that was the lead single to the album. The mix sounds really good too. The bell-like synth riff is cool, the vocals by Reggie drag the song down a bit, but doesn't destroy it. Overall one of the best singles from Technotronic, the sound is really good on here. Unfortunately, it was by far the best single on the album. 4.5/5

Work: Second single of this album. A very bulky and slightly dissonant song without melody. To me doesn't come close to the top singles by this project. 3/5

Release Yourself: The song is the best example of why the singer Reggie isn't as good as the former singer Ya Kid K. Voice isn't horribly bad, but doesn't really distinguishes itself from the average, Ya Kid K was in my opinion by far better. The song itself is hard to beat at banality, very weak effort. 2/5

Cold Chillin': Very unusual song. Sluggish OnBeat rhythm, guitar-like chord riff, and inflected speech (hope that is the right term, german = Sprechgesang) by "Riv". One of those failed attemps to create "something different". 2/5

Voices: This dark kinda industrial like instrumental piece starts with a short speech line from Richard Nixon. Surely not bad. 3.5/5

Money Makes The World Go Round: Lyrically rather cheap, but melodically a quite nice House Track with RnB flavour. One of my personal faves on this album. 4/5

Gimmie The One: To put it simple and short: A boring track that is close getting a 1 rating. 2/5

Yeh-Yeah: No bad instrumental. Stylistically difficult to describe, sounds a bit like dark electronic Samba with a bit of industrial flavour. Sound-wise quite interesting, but just kept extremely monotonous. 3.5/5

Body To Body: Title track makes you notice that both "Riv" and "Colt 45" have a slightly limited sounding voice, I think his predecessor DJ Eric was much better. Beat is quite ok, but the weak sounding voice suffocates the rest of the track. 3/5

Get It Started: Bass at the beginning reminds you immediately of Pump up the Jam. Unfortunately, that's the only really good part about this track. Overall a really mediocre hip house track. 2.5/5

Bogaert's Breakfast: Instrumental with on one side typical Technotronic sounds, but on the other rather dark sounding, almost industrial like elements. Pretty good. 4/5
