The main beat on the track A1 is from a late 80's Rap Track called "Dope on Plastic" by an a rapper calling himself Uptown. You can even hear him saying the first word of the track "Dope" all the way through it. The music for the "Dope on Plastic" track was built by the guy from Black By Demand (another late 80's NYC Rap group).

Dance floor history. Not only do you get "Nightwriters" and "Let the Music Use you", you also get a classic piece of 1992 breakbeat hardcore. One for the collection.

Comments from Slipmatt regarding this release (from his website)"Our next release on Awesome was DJs Take Control / Way In My Brain. This literally sold out from Mo’s Music Machine, our new distributor, in under an hour!Wow… the phone didn’t stop ringing, and the record was going mental. I remember giving a copy to Pete Tong at John Digweed’s event called Storm on Hastings Pier in the summer of 1991. I was on the decks straight after Pete and played DJs Take Control as my first tune, and then gave him my copy before he left. He went on to play it for 10 weeks in a row on his Radio 1 show and we subsequently hit the pop charts at number 11. We had taken a deal with XL Recordings and our whole world changed. "

is this early jungle? Cause it sure has got the elements of a jungle track.

Yeah I could call it proto-jungle, but probably just breakbeat hardcore. The whole transition from hardcore to jungle in 91-93 is a bit nebulous and people have varying opinions on each track, which is why it's such an amazing time in rave history.

Apart from the good sampling that was mentioned by my pre-commentators this EP is SL2's best work as far as i am concerned. All the tracks became Breakbeat Classics and were played over and over again. Of course DJs Take Control sticks out as the main track but nevertheless the rest is on the same level.Still an outstanding work by Slipmatt and Lime! Grab a copy if you do not have one already!

it also samples BFC (Carl Craig)'s mighty "Galaxy" from the EP Evolution, 1990 (http://www.discogs.com/BFC-Evolution/master/636)

"Galaxy" was massively sampled in Europe, especially by "Shut Up & dance". Another reason as to why CC is a don.

I really like the remix of 'The Noise', really idiot proof hardcore track. It may be minimal, but it's one of those tracks that's balls to the wall and rough and ready. More DJ's should have acknowledged it.

DJ'S TAKE CONTROL....actually samples 'Dope on plastic' by 'Uptown' on tommy boy records 1989, not 'Give it up' by Kool & the gang...Uptown sampled 'give it up' on his track & SL2 rippped it from Uptowns track.

At the risk of stating the obvious, Way In My Brain not only samples Wayne Smith Reggae's classic "Under Mi Sleng Teng" as stated in the notes, it uses all the elements of the song and turns it into a Hardcore classic.Complete rip off but great tune!Respect the original.

In my book the finest ep ever released during my raving days! I will never forget the first time i heard DJ's Take Control and the feeling i had when it breaks into Frankie Knuckle's "Let The Music Take Control". The other standout track on this ep was the original mix of "The Noise" which was without doubt had the ruffest bassline i ever heard whilst bouncing off the walls at Labrinth!!
