Lord Mantis - Pervertor review: Demented, hypnotic and downright suffocating, Pervertor is one of the most staggering metal albums of the year. Lord Mantis are one of these bands whose main task is to shock and thus make their listeners feel profoundly uneasy. The second album of Chicago foursome reaches the pinnacle of fear that so many other bands strive for. Pervertor relies on the atmosphere that's gloomy, hostile and downright suffocating by means of a staggering studio production courtesy of the great Sanford Parker. Lord Mantis is an American Sludge, Black Metal band featuring members of Seventh Rule labelmates Indian and avant black metallers Avichi, as well as an ex-member of Nachtmystium. The 'Mantis was formed in Chicago, Illinois in 2008 and wields a bludgeoning sound with an extra layer of darkness, in the words of the UK's Rock Sound a sonic descent into hell, akin to Neurosis, Zeni Geva, and even Immolation. This incredible album is the very definition of what true American black metal should sound like: dark, cold, heartless, and very addictive.
