Watch the official music video for 'Love and Mercy' by Brian Wilson originally released on his self-titled album from 1988. In 2017 'Love and Mercy' & MERCY presents an unconventional portrait of Brian Wilson, the mercurial singer, songwriter and leader of The Beach Boys. Set against the era-defining catalog of Wilsons music, the film intimately examines the personal voyage and ultimate salvation of the icon whose success came at extraordinary personal cost. Paul Dano delivers an astonishing performance as the younger version of Brian Wilson, with John Cusack playing him in the later years, a gambit that pays off handsomely in a production that reflects Wilsons blaring imagination with its own ingenious structure, visual approach, sound design and poetic sensibility. Music from Love and Mercy is the soundtrack album to Bill Pohlad's film of the same name about the Beach Boys' songwriter-musician-producer and co-founder Brian Wilson. The album was released by Capitol Records on August 14, 2015. Selections from Atticus Ross's original film score were included in addition to song performances featured in the film. The closing track, One Kind of Love, was written by Wilson specially for the film. When Brian talks about a Shanty album while inside the pool, by the end of the scene a crew member is reflected in the window behind him over his left shoulder. Brian Past: We're not surfers, we never have been, and real surfers don't dig our music anyway Dennis Wilson: They don't. First, there's concert footage of the recent Brian Wilson, himself, singing Love & Mercy, and then at the very end there is audio of a brief recreated studio recording of Good. Brian Wilson is, in his way, a bluesman. He suffered physical abuse as a child from his father, battled severe mental illness and later endured a divorce from his first wife, Marilyn, with whom he had two daughters Carnie, 46, and Wendy, 45, who became two-thirds of the early-90s pop trio Wilson Phillips. For much of the 80s, he was ruthlessly exploited by a Svengali-style shrink, Dr. Eugene Landy, who doubled as his manager. Although Wilson has been on the mend for decades, his album is deeply informed by a sense of loss. This record is about love and understanding. It opens with a prayer, This Beautiful Day, and closes with a prayer, The Last Song. Love & Mercy stylized as love&mercy is a 2014 American biographical drama film directed by Bill Pohlad that focuses on the Beach Boys' co-founder and leader Brian Wilson and his struggles with mental illness during the 1960s and 1980s. The film derives its title from Wilson's 1988 song of the same name, and stars Paul Dano and John Cusack as the young and middle-aged Wilson, respectively, with Elizabeth Banks as his second wife Melinda Ledbetter, and Paul Giamatti as his psychotherapist Dr. Album: Brian Wilson 1988. Brian Wilson recalled the story of the song, which he wrote the help of his therapist Dr. Eugene Landy: I was in my piano room, and I was playing 'What The World Needs Now, Is Love, Sweet Love' and I just went into my own song. I worked very hard to get out of me what was in my heart on that one. I called up Dr. Landy and we worded on the lyrics together. I was going for a spiritual, semi-Beach Boy kind of background sound, but more of a Brian Wilson lead vocal thing. Love And Mercy' is a real positive vibe it really is.
